Privacy Policy — SplitPot

Last updated: 13 September 2026

SplitPot ("the app") is developed by Ramdas. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your information.

The short version

Your pots, the people in them and every expense stay on your phone. The app has no account, no sign-in, no server and no upload. It does show ads, and ads involve Google collecting an advertising identifier — that is the one place data leaves your device without you asking it to.

Your pots, members and expenses

Everything you enter — pot names, member names, what each person put in, every expense, its description, amount and date, and who paid it — is stored in a database on your device only.

The names and UPI IDs in the app are ones you type. SplitPot does not read your phone's contact list. It has no permission to do so and never asks for one. The "Contacts" screen inside the app is a list of names you have saved in SplitPot itself, so you do not have to retype them for the next trip.

There is no server, no cloud sync and no account. Nothing here is uploaded. Deleting a pot removes it and its expenses. Uninstalling the app removes all of it.

Receipt photos

When you attach a receipt, Android's own photo picker hands the app that one image. The app copies it into its private storage on the device so the receipt survives if you later move or delete the original.

The app does not request permission to read your photo library, and cannot see any image you have not explicitly picked. Receipt photos are never uploaded.

Paying people back

When you tap to pay someone their share, the app builds a standard upi:// link containing the payee's UPI ID, the amount and a note, and hands it to whichever UPI app you have installed.

SplitPot does not process payments. It never sees your bank details, card numbers, PIN or balance, and it is not told whether the payment succeeded. What happens after the UPI app opens is between you, that app and your bank, governed by their policies rather than this one.

Sharing a settlement

"Share on WhatsApp" builds a plain-text summary — the totals, who put in what, the expenses and who owes whom — and passes it to the app you choose. It is sent only when you tap share, and only to where you send it. The app sends nothing on its own.

Backups

"Save a backup" writes your data as a single JSON file to a location you choose through Android's file picker. If you choose a cloud folder such as Google Drive, the file goes to your own Drive under your own account. The app never uploads a backup anywhere by itself, and cannot read a backup you have not opened through the picker.

That file contains your pots, members and expenses in readable form. Treat it as you would any document holding your financial notes.

Advertising

The app shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To serve them, Google receives your device's advertising ID together with technical information such as device type, operating system version, coarse location derived from your IP address, and how you interacted with the ad. Google's handling of that data is covered by its own privacy policy, not this one: https://policies.google.com/privacy

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, a consent form appears before any personalised ad is requested, and your choice is respected. You can reset or limit your advertising ID at any time in Settings → Google → Ads on your phone.

Ads can be removed permanently by buying the one-time "Remove ads" product, or temporarily by watching a rewarded video.

Purchases

The one-time "Remove ads" purchase is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment; SplitPot is told only whether the product is owned, so it knows whether to hide the ads. The app never receives your card, UPI or bank details. Refunds and payment records are handled by Google Play.

Ratings

The app may occasionally show Google Play's own in-app review sheet. That sheet is displayed by Google Play, and Google does not tell the app whether you reviewed it or what you said.

Children

SplitPot is not directed at children under 13 and is not intended for their use. It does not knowingly collect information from children.

Permissions, and why each exists

PermissionWhy
INTERNETLoading ads and contacting Google Play for purchases
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATELetting the ad library check whether there is a connection
AD_ID and the ACCESS_ADSERVICES_* permissionsAdded by the Google Mobile Ads library so ads can be served
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, WAKE_LOCKAdded by Google Play services libraries; SplitPot itself starts no service

SplitPot declares no camera permission, no contacts permission and no storage permission.

Your data, and removing it

All your data lives on your device. To remove it:

Backup files you created yourself are yours; delete them wherever you saved them. Because nothing is held on a server, there is no account to close and no deletion request to send.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the updated version appears at this same address.
